Steel Magnolias

Steel Magnolias

The action is set in Truvy’s beauty salon – the best place to get your hair done and catch up on the local gossip in Chinquapin, Louisiana. This popular play takes audiences from laugh-out-loud hilarity to poignant heartbreak. Through it all strength and friendship prevail as six friends explore birth, death, divorce, and a mother’s greatest sorrow. Steel Magnolias features a stellar cast led by Austin Playhouse Acting Company members Mary Agen Cox as Truvy, Babs George as M’Lynn, Janet Hurley Kimlicko as Ouiser, and Bernadette Nason as Clairee, with Rebecca Carton as Shelby, and Molly Karrasch as Annelle. Steel Magnolias is directed by Don Toner with Costumes designed by Diana Huckaby, and Lighting designed by Don Day. Steel Magnolias was originally produced in 1987. It became an Off-Broadway smash and moved to a Broadway theatre later that year. The play recently enjoyed a successful Broadway revival. We are proud to present this wonderful play that has remained as fresh and moving for audiences as it was twenty years ago.
